Cats of Newtown is a mural commissioned in remembrance of Banjo, a black cat who once lived in the building. It extends beyond a single story, becoming a quiet tribute to the many cats that move through and shape everyday neighbourhood life.

Built from simple geometric forms — circles, squares, and rectangles — each figure is constructed rather than drawn, reducing the cat into a visual language of parts and structure. Across the mural, multiple black cats appear in different poses, forming the title CATS OF NEWTOWN.

The work explores ideas of type and repetition — how identity can be distilled into form, yet still carry presence, character, and variation. Between abstraction and recognition, the cats become both symbols and quiet companions within the space they inhabit.
